Mount Kvitvola — an accessible 1,154 m summit hike near Drevsjø

Mount Kvitvola rises to 1,154 metres above sea level, but it is one of the most accessible summits in the region. A private mountain road takes you almost all the way up — so what would normally be a serious mountain day becomes a short, family-friendly walk with a very big view.

Two summits, one easy hike

Kvitvola actually has two tops: Søndre Kvitvolaknappen (the southern top) and Nordre Kvitvolaknappen (the northern top). Both give sweeping views over the lakes and forests of Engerdal and Femund, and toward the majestic Mount Sølen to the west.

On a clear day you can pick out Sølensjøen, Galtsjøen, Isteren, Femund, Drevsjø and Vurrusjøen — the last of which stretches across the border into Sweden.

Getting there from the farm

The summit parking sits at roughly 1,000 metres and is about a 28-minute drive (25.8 km) from Forest Ranger Farm. The final stretch up the mountain is a private toll road: the fee is NOK 100 and you can pay by credit card at the tollbooth. Even the parking lot itself has a great view.

The hike itself

From the parking, the round trip over both summit points is about 6.5 kilometres with roughly 173 metres of elevation gain. It is not strenuous, and you do not need to be an experienced hiker. We walked it in July 2026 at a leisurely pace, stopping often for photos, and were back at the car in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Mountain tops at this elevation can have very different weather from the valleys below. Wind, cloud and temperature can shift quickly, so always check the forecast before heading up.
